Regarded as the single most important private collection in the
west, Dr. Walter A. Compton's collection of Japanese swords and fittings has
been well documented.
The two books: NIPPON-TO: Art Swords of Japan, 100
Masterpieces, and the three Compton auction catalogs
have become a very important reference set. Nippon-To is unique as it
was published well before the collection was sold, while auction catalogs
present the entire collection.
